Water

Poor access to safe and adequate water is a serious problem in the slums. The Nairobi City Council (NCC) supplies water irregularly to slum settlements, forcing residents to travel long distances and wait in
long queues to buy water from private/NGO water points for up to Ksh. 5 per 20 liters; and often, this water is not safe for drinking. Others buy water from illegal water line connections or from landlords who
own boreholes. Still, others use sewage-contaminated water from nearby rivers.  (APHRC)

Our vision at Light Christian Ministries Nairobi, is to lift up and equip the citizens of Nairobi's Kawangware slum, to provide for themselves, their families and evangilize for our Lord Jesus Christ.    Currently about 10% of our congregation is gainfully employed.  Most families support themselves with menial work, or by selling items on the street.  Gas and electricity are luxuries.  Most families cook over a charcoal stove.  Some children do not eat daily.

In order to accomplish our goal of providing hope and a future for the residents of the Kawangware slum, our vision is to build a new facility, which includes:

  • School
  • Church
  • Cafeteria
  • Technical/Trade School
