Isaiah 61:1-3

"The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.  He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion--to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.  They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor. "

A ministry testimony from the Senior Pastor of Light Christian Ministries Nairobi

It was in 1989 when Pastor James Munene Sr attended a Christian crusade and for the first time met a preacher by the name of Bishop Patrick.  After Bishop Patrick's message, Pastor Munene gave his life to Jesus Christ and was born again.

One night in 1997, Pastor Munene received a vision from the Lord.  In the vision he saw himself in a rocky and hilly ground with three different cows.  One was brilliant white, the second one was black and the third had white and black spots all under his shephered hood.

Being a sunny day, he saw a special arm coming down through the clouds that served as a shade over him.  It is at this time that he heard a voice saying "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to preach the Gospel to the poor, He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed.  To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord."

The interpretation of this vision was also revealed to Pastor Munene.  The three different cows symbolized the church.  We have three categories of people found in the church.  Black meant church goers that have never had any relationship with their God.  White cows are the strong believers with a very strong faith and relationship with the Lord.  The mixed cow is those who live in double standards.  All three groups belong to the church.

Stony ground symbolized my operational zone, like Kawangware, with a difficult life - a slum area with people without any hope and also under my shepherdhood.  But God's able arm coming down from heaven for hope, protection, provision and much more.

In 2001, Pastor Munene forsook his employment where he was serving as a Senior Quality Assurance & Human Resources Manager at a local firm.  To respond to this call, he moved to Kawangware Slums with an idea of establishing a Christian Ministries that can reach, touch and equip people holistically.  He also wanted to establish projects like schools & colleges, rehabilitation centers, micro-finance programs and mission outreaches.  His plans in included planting churches in the future which can meet the spiritual, economical and social needs of the people, all based on Christian Values.
